Fasting has been proven to be an effective tool that can be used to improve overall health.  The benefits of fasting are numerous and are backed by science:

  1. Weight Loss- Fasting helps you lose weight by lowering your insulin levels (Seimon, et. al., 2015, Gabel, et. al., 2018) and causing your body to burn fat.
  2. Improved Diabetic Outcomes- While fasting helps with weight loss as a result it also improves fasting glucose (Arnason, et. al., 2017) and in some cases reverse Type II diabetes all together (Fung,J., 2018).
  3. Improved Cardiovascular Health- Fasting reduces your LDL (the bad cholesterols) and because you are losing weight and reducing your risk for diabetes (both of which are high risk factors for heart disease) you can improve your heart health (Fung, J., 2016; Mattson, et. al., 2017).
  4. Increased Human Growth Hormone- This hormone facilitates fat burning and muscle gain (Hartman, et. al., 1992; Ho, et. al., 1988).
  5. Autophagy- The body gets rid of all the malformed or broken cells. It is a process of breaking down cellular components that don't work anymore. Promoting cell rejuvenation and renewal. (Ohsumi Y., 2012). Side note, Dr. Ohsumi won the The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2016 for his work in this area.

Fasting also promotes better sleep, clearer skin, clarity in mind and spirit as well as increased energy.
